Born in Barbados, Jackie Opel was a star in his country when in 1962 he moved to Jamaica and joined the Skatalites as vocalist and, sometimes, bass player. A true talent for all Caribbean music (including Mento, Calypso, and other forms), he was also technically very gifted, with a six-octave voice. "You Send Me" is recognisable for its very distinct intro and is one massive pure ska tune.

this song was released in 1965 on the doctor bird label, and never reached uk as a 45. by the way, this is a cover: the original tune is by sam cooke.
With all due respect to Sam Cooke, bless him, Jakie Opel's cover is several steps above. I am sure Sam would agree on this
